According to research it has been proven that the make-up of the gray matter in the brain can determine how sensitive a person is to pain. It has generally been found that people who tend to daydream have a lower pain threshold compared to people who are more focused. People with lower pain threshold have less gray matter in brain regions that contribute to internal thoughts and control of attention. These regions include the posterior cingulate cortex, precuneus, and areas of the posterior parietal cortex.
