Fasting is a popular traditional concept in many cultures and religions of India. It is believed that it is one of the effective ways of achieving spiritual gains, but it has been reasoned by science too. As per the Ayurveda, fasting helps an individual in to maintain a balance between Ama (body toxins) and Agni (digestive fire). It relieves the digestive system of the body and flushes out the accumulated toxins. Hence, it is not an unhealthy practice.
