Humans not only pick up aromas of food through their nose but also through their mouth while chewing. Retronasal smell is smelling the food behind the nose when food is chewed. In this process, the volatile molecules are released which then drift through the mouth to the back of the nose where odour gets detected. Unfortunately, this ability also decreases as you age.
Essential oils are concentrated extracts of the plant to retain the pure essence of their source. They are either inhaled or applied to the skin to stimulate your sense of smell and have a lot of medicinal benefits to offer. Lavender, Peppermint, and Sandalwood are among the popular essential oils. Essential oils are not only used for aromatherapy but also by various industries for making cosmetics and preserving food. They are also a powerful mosquito repellent. Essential oils are generally safe, however, they may have some side-effects if applied directly to the skin.
