A new study suggests that food labeling may contribute to the rising obesity figures. This might be because people tend to consume a particular food item more if its label says it's healthy assuming that they are making a healthy choice. Health experts also revealed that people also think that health food is less filling and end up overeating thereby consuming much more calories than they think they consumed.

An Israeli study published last month stated that the metabolism of two people consuming identical food is different. Sometimes the difference is really drastic. A food festival will be organised by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation to promote healthy eating habits and cultural ties among adults and kids. This will be Mayor Sudhakar's first attempt towards promotion of healthy eating habits among Navi Mumbai citizens. The food festival will be held in Belapur in the month of February next year.

Ram Vilas Paswan, Union minister of Consumer Affairs, Food And Public Distribution, while addressing the consumer day celebration said that the government along with voluntary consumer organization will launch a country-wide campaign to create customer awareness for safe and hygienic food. Prakrut, a three-day organic food festival began in Rajkot city on the 19th December. Farmers from across India displayed their produce and organic recipes at the festival. Organised by, 'Saurashtra Sajeev Kheti Abhiyaan', a farmers' group promoting organic farming in the state the festival was aimed at connecting organic farmers with customers. A new study conducted by Jaypee hospital in 51 private schools in Noida concluded that 22% of the 8,054 children were prone to liver diseases. A new study whose findings were published in the journal, Environment Systems and Decisions stated that eating vegetarian food can contribute more to climate change than eating non-vegetarian food. It was observed that eating healthy food that comprised of a mix of fruits, vegetables, dairy and seafood, increased the environmental impact where energy use went up by 38%, water use by 10% and GHG emissions by 6%.

Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home on Friday said that no minister could tell a citizen what to eat. The minister added that discussions on food habits are not good for the country's health. After his recent trip to Mizoram, Kiren faced agitation from the civil society there in regards to beef consumption. At an Aaj Tak event, he said, "as a Minister I cannot direct anyone what to do and what to eat.”
