To improve health, to ensure no one is at the risk of financial losses because of ill health and to be responsive to legitimate demands of the population are the three goals of the country's health system as per WHO. Given these three goals the fourth National Food Health Survey (NFHS-4) gave a lot of reasons for people to cheer. The survey released last week was conducted in 13 states and 2 union territories addressed the three goals.

Health experts have scrutinised the use of sugary drinks and its adverse effects on human health. Recent medical studies have shown a positive correlation of consumption of sugary drinks with the risk of obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and even death. A new study published in the American Heart Association's journal Circulation says adults in their middle age who consume sugary drinks like soda and coke constantly show an increase in visceral fat which increases the risk of diabetes and heart diseases.

Health Department squads conducted flash searches recently after wich it prepared a strict action plan noticing the unhealthy practices by few vendors.
